The Dining Room is a beautiful new restaurant situated in the stunning surroundings of the 8th century Sherborne Abbey and 15th century almshouse. We cook sensational traditional British food with a respectful nod to the past and an eager fork in the fresh ideas of contemporary dining.

The buildings that house the restaurant were originally erected in 1743 by Lord William Digby, and founded as a school for the "education and clothing of poor girls".  These buildings are full of vibrant history, the echoes of a busy school community and the beneficence of the 'Good Lord Digby' and his wife, Lady Jane, whom the school was founded in the memory of. 

We hope to do justice to the rich heritage of Lord Digby's school, whilst serving tantalising, exquisitely good British food.

We're now into our summer opening times which means we are closed on Sunday and Monday — however, if you wish to book a private party please contact us and we'll be happy to accommodate you. You can also eat at these times at our adjoining hotel, The Britannia Inn; click here for more information.

We're open for lunch and dinner from Monday to Saturday, and lunch on Sunday.

The Dining Room has been honoured recently by some very exciting guests. Not only have we been visited by two famous faces from television, but we've also had a royal visit!

Co-presenter of The Great British Bake Off, and one half of the inimitable Mel and Sue, the lovely Sue Perkins dropped in for one of our delicious meals and was a real delight to have dine with us.

Word must be getting around celebrity circles, because shortly after Sue's visit, newsreader, TV presenter and Classic FM deejay John Suchet joined us for a Saturday evening meal and was a true gentleman and thoroughly nice chap!

And our ever expanding reputation for fine food appears to have reached the royals, no less! It was a real privilege for us to have HRH Princess Michael of Kent dine with us and she was every bit as charming as you'd expect a real princess to be. But try as she might, even after a couple of requests, we still didn't give her our special secret recipes! So it's official—The Dining Room serves meals good enough for royalty!

Today we're launching our brand new 'Menu of the Day'  which we will update daily. We're offering three options per course to make choosing a delicious dish really easy.  Two or three course options available, and of course, all our tasty side dishes are also available.

We're very pleased to announce, we will shortly have a new and very talented chef joining Nick in the Dining Room kitchen. Details to be announced very soon—stay tuned.

The addition of another chef, means we can extend the days we are open to seven, meaning you can dine in style with us every day of the week! This will happen as of 9th March, and we can't wait!

We're open! Our grand opening event took place on Thursday 27th November, officially marking the start of a brand new era of fine dining in Sherborne. Sherborne Mayor Jon Andrews presided over the proceedings cutting the ribbon across The Dining Room's threshold and welcoming the guests into the warm glow of our beautiful new restaurant.
